Canine Good Citizen

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) was developed by American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1989, to reward dogs for their good behavior in and out of their homes. AKC recommends this as a starting point for training.  It is a ten part test that checks the pet ownership and the basic obedience and manners of the dog. The dog and owner are asked to do ten different tasks. If and when they succeed, the both will receive a certificate of completion and the dog will add CGC to the end of his or her name. You may also purchase a CGC patch and tag to go on your dogs collar online. Some pet therapy groups require CGC as a partial screening tool.  State legislatures have passed resolutions in seventeen states that recognize the Canine Good Citizen.

Testing can be done at The Canine Coach, please call for more information and to ask any questions (512) 244-7177. The American Kennel Club provided the information above. If you would like to learn more about what you can do after you pass the CGC test, or any other information visit their Website at www.americankennelclub.com
